Caring for the Environment: Our Commitment to Carbon Offsets

At Global Air Charters, we recognize that the aviation industry is at the heart of discussions over carbon emissions. With green airplane technology still decades away, some companies and passengers choose to purchase carbon credits. It’s an intriguing concept, but one that passes around the costs of emissions while not actively working to offset or eliminate them.

We wish to do something more concrete and believe that the restoration of trees is among the most effective strategies available to us to help mitigate climate change. On your behalf, we have committed to planting one tree in a reforestation project for every heavy airframe charter flight we fly.

We recognize that one tree does not fully offset the carbon footprint of a flight. However, it is a start. If you wish to fly carbon-neutral, we can calculate the number of trees needed to offset your flight fully, and you may choose to purchase additional tree plantings.

As we plant trees, we will publish photos on our website. If you purchase additional tree plantings, we will send you a picture of your trees and document the planting location.

The Value of Trees

Trees offer a multifaceted value to our society. Not only do they capture carbon and cool the air, but planted appropriately, shade trees help save energy, lower the urban heat island effect, improve our health, and put smiles on our faces.

A hardwood tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide annually, sequestering approximately 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40. It can also provide up to four people a day’s oxygen supply.

Shaded surfaces can be 20–45 °F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded areas. Trees cool a city by up to 10 °F by shading our homes and streets and releasing water vapor into the air through their leaves. Trees properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30% and save 20–50% in energy used for heating.

Trees also have a significant effect on society at large. Every 10% increase in green space in a community is associated with a reduction in diseases equivalent to an increase of five years of life expectancy. Office workers with a view of trees report significantly less stress and more satisfaction.

You may purchase additional tree plantings to help offset the carbon footprint of your flight, and we are happy to make the calculations for you.
