Skip the Crowds, Keep the Fun
Let’s be honest – nobody wants to wait in line for hours just to grab a seat. The good news? VIP reservations at Oktoberfest mean you walk right in, sit down, and start enjoying yourself. You’ll have your own table, friendly servers who keep your beer flowing, and food that’s way better than typical festival grub.
The best part about being a VIP is how easy everything becomes. No stress about finding spots for your group, no standing around with nowhere to put your drink, and no missing out on the action. Most VIP packages even include guided tours to view the coolest spots and best photo ops around the festival grounds.
A Munich Tradition
Oktoberfest has a rich history that dates back to 1810. The festival originally began as a royal wedding celebration for Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities, which took
place over five days and included horse races, food, and, of course, beer.
As the years went by, the festival grew in popularity and was held annually. By 1818, the first beer tents were introduced, allowing visitors to enjoy the local brews in a more comfortable setting. The festival continued to expand, and by the mid-19th century, it had become a staple event in Bavarian culture.
The Best Tents for VIP Treatment
With 14 big tents and 21 smaller ones spread across the festival grounds, you’ve got plenty of options. The Käfer’s Wiesn-Schänke is where Munich’s rich and famous hang out, serving amazing food alongside the beer. If you’re more of a wine person, the Weinzelt (Wine Tent) has you covered with champagne and fine wines – though it’s one of the pricier spots at the festival.
Kufflers Weinzelt sits right under the famous Bavaria statue and feels like stepping back in time with its old wooden beams and comfy outdoor area. Some of the bigger tents reach up to 15 meters high and have multiple floors, with the VIP sections offering the best views of the excitement happening below.
Local Bavarian Beers
Dubbed the “festival of Munich beer”, the event has stringent rules on beer available for consumption. Only beer from Munich breweries may be served at the Wiesn, with six major breweries presenting their new Wiesn beer each year. To qualify for service at Oktoberfest, a beer must meet the specifications of the protected ‘Oktoberfestbier’ brand. The local breweries include:
- Augustiner: The oldest brewery founded in 1328, is known for its cult-status Augustiner Hell and uniquely continues to use traditional 200-liter wooden barrels, known as Hirschen, for storage.
- Hacker Pschoor: The brewery emerged as Munich’s leading brewery in the 18th century under Joseph Pschorr and Maria Theresia Hacker, later operating as separate entities until reuniting as a joint brand in 1972. You’ll know you are drinking a Hacker-Pschorr beer when you hear the iconic “Plopp” sound.
- Hofbräuhaus: Yes, they do have a brewery in Munich! The global favorite boasts a luxurious pub and beer garden in the city, not to mention the strongest beer at the festival.
- Paulaner: Founded in 1634 by the monks of the Paulaner Order, the Paulaner Brewery is the youngest of the breweries serving beer at Oktoberfest, and produces a diverse range of beers that are exported to over 80 countries.
- Löwenbräu: Appearing in Munich’s beer brewing directory in 1746, but likely dates back to the late 14th century, the brewery is known for its iconic lion logo and the famous Löwenbräukeller beer garden. Look for its giant lion calling out to find a pint.
- Spaten: Founded in 1397, Spaten made history by launching “Münchner Hell” in 1894, becoming the first brewery to brew this light-colored, bottom-fermented style, which remains a bestseller 125 years later.
